An abstract painter, Marianne’s works are intuitive and concerned with power and womanhood.
She paints deeply textured works predominantly with oil. Self-portraits in abstract form, Marianne’s paintings are both an externalisation of her inner life, and informed by themes of femininity, freedom and social justice.
Marianne has been painting abstract works for over 20 years. Since her first exhibit in 2011, she has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions for a range of galleries and exhibitions spaces across London.
In her 2024 solo exhibition Remembering she depicted a personal as well as collective Remembering, illustrating aspects of feminine power from ancient times to the present. This followed on from her 2022 solo exhibition Opening where she explored a personal internal opening alongside a wider transformation of something hidden into that which demands to be seen. Prior to, and around these, she has exhibited in group shows and solo shows such as Monochrome in 2018 and Chequered in 2015 inspired by her human rights work in Afghanistan. Her earliest works were Cathartic, communicating her deepest emotions.
As well as abstract works, Marianne paints representational portraits by commission only.
